Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits
Today is my pup, Lola’s 4th Birthday. My husband and I had adopted her exactly (to-the-day) on her 1st Birthday. I remember the day we met, Lola (our pup) vividly. It was a Thursday night. We ate dinner quickly and hopped in the car and drove about 45 minutes to meet the family who was adopting the Yorkie. As soon as they welcomed us into our home I sat on the ground not knowing what Yorkie was up for adoption. There were three Yorkies playfully running around the house. One immediately came over to me and sat in my lap. She in fact did not leave my lap the entire 2 hours we talked with the family! That little pup, just happened to be the dog that was up for adoption… she became our princess Lola. We took her home that evening. Not having a single thing for her–other than love. Well… we had a small baggie of food, the leash she came with… very basic necessities. I’m pretty sure she ate her food and drank her water out of Tupperware containers that first evening.
My whole life I was always a cat owner. I never in a million years would have thought of myself being a dog owner. That is until I became severely allergic to cats and most dogs. I knew I needed a hypoallergenic pet, and a Yorkie seemed to be a good fit for us. My husband on the other hand had, grew up with dogs–but never a small 7 pound dog, like we adopted! Lola has been the best thing that has happened to us–and we treat her like she is our child. I knew I wanted to make her a special treat for her birthday even though she probably has no clue that she has just turned a year older.
Earlier today we took her to the dog park where she ran around freely with the other small dogs. I’m happy to see she is still full of energy. I love when she has her spurts of energy and runs around our house like a crazy little dog. I think that is one of the many attributes I love about her, and I think it’s the one thing I pray she keeps with her for many years to come!
