{Google Hangout} Blueberries

I also shared my story during the chat about how I just recently went blueberry picking for the first time. The other day I shared my peach experience at Lane Southern Orchards.
I was shocked to find that blueberries when not ripe are pink! I think this was the most shocking part of the entire experience for me. The pink berries are hard and are very difficult to pull off the bushes. The bright blue berries are much softer (ripe) and easy to pick off the bush.
Thankfully, my husband agreed to doing a little blueberry picking after our peach tour. He’s pictured above with his basket picking blueberries.
I have so much appreciation for the people who pick our produce. Picking blueberries takes forever long.
Although at times, I would hit a bush with tons of ripe berries and would pull off hand-fulls at a time like this photo above.
In just a short half hour we picked over 2.5 pounds of blueberries and sadly less than a half pound of blackberries.

Yep! We had a bunch of blueberry bushes in our yard when I was growing up. I did plenty of blueberry picking every summer… usually in July or even early August. Unless you have netting or an enclosure (which we didn’t), you really need to go every morning to pick them just after they’ve turned blue/purple- otherwise the birds got most of them
