{Product Review & Giveaway} Basilico Box

{Product Review & Giveaway} Basilico BoxI was recently contacted to receive and review a brand new service that is delivered right to your doorstep. Let me introduce you to the Basilico! Basilico is a delightful tasting and cooking experience for two delivering the traditional recipes and flavors of the “Bella Italia” at your own home. Italian cuisine is known for being healthy, fresh and simple. You will finally be able to prepare a full Italian dinner in less than 30 minutes thus surprising your guests with ingredients, decorations and flavors that they might have only only in the best restaurants in Sicily. Enjoy Italy at home, savor your delightful dishes and become an Italian chef.

This is how the box is broken out by:

The Valentine’s Day Box includes not only the ingredients for  two people but it provides photo directions for easy preparation.

Chocolate Hazelnut Cookies and Olive Bread Sticks | Basilico Box

Appetizer

  • Crispy Olive “grissini” bread sticks
  • Artisanal Sun dried tomato sauce from Liguria

Dessert

  • Chocolate Italian made biscuits with cocoa cream

Risotto Main Course | Basilico Box Main Course: Risotto allo Zafferano (Saffron Risotto)

  • Traditional Carnaroli rice imported from Italy
  • Saffron
  • Onion
  • Beef flavor bouillon

So after I got my box and checked out all the goods it was time to get cooking! What I liked about the box is that it has a great base of ingredients. The sky is the limit and don’t feel like your limited to what is just sent to you. I added a few additional ingredients to my meal and it brought it to the next level. No one  would ever know that a bulk of your ingredients were delivered to your doorstep! And if you decide that you don’t want to add anything to your box no biggie. Just know that aside from the ingredients delivered you’ll need salt, pepper, oil, butter, and heavy cream.

Basilico Box Appetizer

We fell in love with the appetizer of crispy olive bread sticks and artisanal sun dried tomato sauce! It reminded us of a similar appetizer we enjoyed while dining in Venice, Italy last fall. We had the crispy breadsticks just about everywhere we ate at in Italy!

Lobster Risotto with Olive Bread Sticks

We could have enjoyed the appetizer alone.

Then it was time for the main entree. I kicked up our saffron risotto with some green (frozen) peas and chunks of lobster. This took our saffron risotto to the next level.

Basilico Box Valentine's Dessert
I also added a few fresh strawberries to the cookies and freshly whipped cream! My husband said this was a perfect Valentine’s Day Dinner dessert and then went off on a tangent of inappropriateness!

All I can say is that he said this could be considered “sex on a plate”. I decided to cut the center strawberry into a heart like shape!
