Homemade Cajun Seasoning

Homemade Cajun Seasoning
Have you ever found yourself looking in your spice cabinet, searching for a spice only to discover your out and forgot to pick it up at the store? Before moving I tossed a lot of old spices–it was an ideal time to purge and really look at all the expiration dates! I also wrote a list in my phone of all the spices I tossed so once we moved in I could replace them. Well clearly I failed on picking up new spices during my last grocery trip because I was completely out of Cajun seasoning. I knew that I could probably make my own, so I searched to the web like most people do and found this recipe for Cajun seasoning.

Homemade Cajun Seasoning

I did modify the recipe, and made it a little less spicy because I knew my toddler son, Ryder, would be eating it too. I didn’t put as much cayenne powder and only a pinch of red pepper flakes. The seasoning turned out great and within just a few minutes I was back to putting together my jambalaya in the slow cooker! Even better I didn’t spend a dime making the Cajun seasoning since I already had all the spices on hand. I love when this happens and I realize I can’t make it verse buying it! And I didn’t feel like I had to put less Cajun seasoning in the jambalaya because Ryder was eating it since I knew all the spices that were in it and I knew the seasoning wasn’t too spicy! So if you run into a predicament and are in need of Cajun seasoning. Check your spice cabinet first to see if you have all the ingredients then make it yourself!

I really like that you left out some of the spice – my daughter will appreciate that too!

Jill–you can even modify it even more and leave out all the cayenne if you’d like!

I love being able to make my own seasoning mixes so that I can tweak them to my liking. This looks perfect!
