Grilled Italian herb asparagus is the perfect homemade fresh vegetable side dish to compliment any meal prepared on the grill.
I live in Florida, and I’m lucky enough to be able to grill year-round. You’ll find asparagus on my menu at least once a week. My preferred method of cooking asparagus is grilling it. It’s an effortless side dish that takes minimal time and packs a nutritious punch to any dinner. That’s why I jazzed up our asparagus recently and made this Grilled Italian Herb Asparagus.
I feel like many people see asparagus as an upscale side dish. You will find it as a premium up charge at any big steakhouse or mainstream restaurant these days. It always makes me laugh considering that the price of asparagus if purchased in season is not that much more than other green vegetables in the produce aisle. But for some reason asparagus has been given this “high-end“ vegetable label.
What are the health benefits of a asparagus?
Asparagus has quite a few health benefits. It is a great source of fiber and folate. It’s also packed with antioxidants and is a natural brain booster thanks to that folate.
What kitchen tools do you need to grill asparagus?
Here are a few of my favorite kitchen tools that you’ll need to grill asparagus.
- OXO Measuring Spoons
- OXO Good Grips 16″ Grilling Tongs
- Vegetable Grilling Pan
- Baking Sheet
How do you make Grilled Italian Herb Asparagus?
I celebrate the “high-end” vegetable by grilling the asparagus with simple ingredients that amplify its natural flavors. I always coat my veggies in oil such as olive oil or grapeseed oil. Then, I sprinkle on the Litehouse® Fresh Dried Italian Herb Blend, salt, and black pepper. I use the best kitchen tools you can find to mix—your own hands! This will help ensure that the seasoning is evenly distributed. I like to place the veggies on a baking sheet, so it’s easy to transport to and from the grill. If I’m grilling meat I also like to add the cooked meat to the baking tray.
Asparagus does not take long to grill. In fact, it takes about 5 minutes to grill. Make sure to place the spears horizontal along the grill grate, and be prepared for one or two to fall into the grill. It’s totally okay. You get bonus points if you can successfully place them on and take them off the grill without any falling off! Or for an easier more fail proof method you can just spend the money and buy a vegetable grilling pan.
Here are a few of my favorite recipes that contain asparagus in them.
- One Pot Spiced Pork Tenderloin with Roasted Potatoes and Asparagus
- One Pot Tomato Asparagus and Prosciutto Pasta
- Prosciutto Mozzarella and Asparagus Naan Flatbreads
- One-Pot Creamy Pumpkin Asparagus and Green Pea Pasta
- Beef and Asparagus Curry
