Parenting can be hard. Case in point, one thing I don’t think anyone ever prepared me for was how much kids eat. Like ALL DAY EVERY DAY. It’s a constant snack fest! I buy more snacks some weeks then main food we will eat for meals. Or at least, it feels that way. My kids actually love a lot of healthy stuff, so I’m really lucky on the front. However, they also love their sweets. They totally get that from me! I shared my Halloween snack mix last year. I realized I should share my kid-friendly snack mix finally on the blog. It’s basically the best of all their snacks in one big bowl.

Today, I’m actually presenting at my son’s kindergarten class for career day. I have the cutest book to read to the class written by a fellow blogger Sommer Poquette of the Green and Clean Mom. The book is titled “My Mommy is a Blogger” and it breaks down the basics of what bloggers do on a daily basis. Afterwards we will create our own “recipe” in class. I plan to have children help measure out each ingredient to this snack mix. Afterwards they will get to taste the “recipe” that they made. I had to think outside the box since I wouldn’t have any access to a microwave let a lone a stove. I also wanted the kids to be able to do something hands on!

How can I get my child involved in cooking?

I’m often asked “How can I get my child involved in cooking?”. The easiest way to start letting them get involved is to let them measure, mix, and stir ingredients. Depending on their age will depend on how much hands on help you’ll need to provide. Believe it or not my kids are not that involved in the kitchen. Most of the time I’m too busy working and creating new recipes and don’t have the time. Yes, I just admitted that. However, on occasion they will ask and I’ll oblige or I’ll carve out time.

What is a kid-friendly snack mix?

The best way to describe a kid-friendly snack mix is it’s a wide variety of all the snacks they love to eat all in one bowl! The sky is the limit as to what you can include in this mix. For this recipe I included the following.

Basically, the sky is the limit. If you go with the ingredients I used it will cost you under $20 for everything. Or you can raid your pantry and mix together all the odds and end snacks you have on hand.

Just like a traditional trail mix I decided to include a few M&M’s to help balance the sweet/salty ratio.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups pretzels
  • 2 cups corn chex
  • 1 cup mini marshmallow's
  • 1 cup honey roasted peanuts
  • 1 cup M&M's
  • 1 cup raisins

Instructions

  • 1. In a large bowl, combine the pretzels, corn chex, mini marshmallow's, honey roasted peanuts, M&M's and raisins. Mix well then place in an air tight container. Enjoy!
