It is hot here in Florida, and summer has fully kicked off for us now that the kids are out of school. We are entertaining poolside on almost the daily. I partnered again with my friends from Fresh from Florida to host a start to summer party with a few of my neighbors and friends. I love how easy it is for summer entertaining with Fresh From Florida Produce.
Fresh From Florida Watermelon
When you think of summer, what do you think of? The first thing that comes to mind is watermelon! While watermelon is generally considered a summer fruit, growers in Florida are lucky enough to be able to plant watermelon for harvest in the winter as well. In fact, Florida is the only state in the country that produces watermelon from December to April.
You can cut watermelon and eat it in slices. You can also grill watermelon. Many people don’t realize this, but by grilling the watermelon it brings out the sugar making each and every bite even sweeter and juicier.
Summer Entertaining Tips
I love to prep my watermelon and corn ahead of time before my guest arrive. That way, once they arrive I can just pull my tray out, and fire up the grill.
If you decide not to grill watermelon you can have it sliced on a cutting board ready for your guest to just grab and enjoy.
When your summer entertaining (or entertaining at all) another tip I have for you is to ask your friends for help! You don’t have to be a super hero or the “hostess with the mostest”. Just like parenting–entertaining takes a village! When My friends ask what they can help with I always give easy task if I’m still in need of help.
Summer Entertaining Recipes
Summer is not complete unless you have watermelon salsa! It’s a refreshing and savory way to enjoy Florida watermelon. Everyone raved about how good this salsa was, and by the end of our pool party the bowl was empty. This salsa also has mango in it which is also in season right now in Florida!
Another recipe I made for our party was this delicious Grilled Mexican Street Corn. So simple to put together and the absolute perfect for summer entertaining. Grilled fresh Florida corn drizzled with Mexican Crema, cotija cheese, a dash of cayenne or chili pepper, fresh cilantro, and lime.
I also made a platter of feta and watermelon skewers with drizzled balsamic vinegar. Most of my friends had never had that combo, and were intrigued to try it!
All of our friends had so much fun digging into a summer barbecue show casing delicious Fresh From Florida Produce! Everyone is already asking me when our next barbecue is set for!
