Green Bean Casserole with Cheese is a fun spin on a classic comfort food side dish. Made with frozen green beans, canned golden mushroom soup, and topped with shredded cheddar cheese and fried onions.
Microwave the green beans in package on HIGH for 4–5 minutes or until hot.
While the green beans cook, melt the butter in a small frying pan. Sauté the onions in butter over medium heat. Cook for about 5 minutes until they are translucent in color.
Transfer the cooked green beans to a medium bowl. Stir in cooked onions and soup until blended.
Spray a 2-quart baking dish with cooking spray. Transfer the green bean mixture to the baking dish. Top the green beans evenly with cheese and French's Fried Onions.
Bake for 10–15 minutes or until cheese melts and the onions are browned. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.
Notes
Green beans - I actually prefer to use frozen green beans for this recipe. Fresh green beans will work too, just steam them prior. I've never made this cheesy green bean casserole recipe with canned green beans.
Canned soup - For this recipe I use Campbell's Golden Mushroom Soup. I have yet to be able to find a way to replicate the same flavors of the canned soup from scratch.
Make Ahead - Make the casserole ahead of time and wait to add the French's fried onions until you are ready to bake.
