In all fairness this recipe for Cajun Shrimp and Andouille Skillet Dinner makes enough for 4. You can eat it for dinner and then take it for lunch the next day. Directions

My Cajun Shrimp & Andouille Skillet Dinner comes together so quickly.

  • In a 12-inch skillet, place the olive oil, diced red onion, minced garlic, and Andouille sausage in the skillet. Cook on medium-high heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add in the diced bell pepper and Cajun seasoning. Mix well and cook with the lid on for 5 additional minutes.
  • Once the peppers begin to soften, add in the plum tomatoes, mix well and reduce the heat to medium. Cook for 5 minutes with the lid off. Then add in the shrimp and cook for 5 minutes with the lid on.
  • Divide the rice between 4 plates, then divide the Cajun shrimp and Andouille sausage between the plates. Top each plate with minced fresh parsley, enjoy immediately.

FAQs

What is the difference between sausage and andouille?

Andouille sausage is a type of sausage. It is a pork sausage filled with Cajun spices. This is the type of sausage you will want for this skillet recipe. Other types of sausage is mild or hot Italian sausage, breakfast sausage, chorizo, keilbasa, brats, etc.

Which is spicier andouille or chorizo?

Both andouille and chorizo sausage are spicy sausages. Yet, both have a different flavor profile. Andouille is packed with Cajun seasonings where Chorizo is filled with spanish style seasoning.

Where can you find andouille sausage?

I find my andouille sausage in the pre-packaged meat case near the kielbasa and other cured sausages.
