Why this Recipe Works
These chocolate spoons are perfect for mixing into hot chocolate.
This recipe isn’t too messy or involved.
This is perfect for the kids to get involved and put fun toppings on the spoons like holiday sprinkles and crushed peppermint to name a few.
Chocolate Spoons make for an affordable and edible neighbor gift.
Ingredients: Chocolate Spoons
- AMERICAN HERITAGE ® Finely Grated Baking Chocolate – For 12 spoons you’ll need about a half cup. I love this versatile grated chocolate because it’s effortless to melt and has natural ingredients. It’s the perfect substitute for any recipe that calls for baking chocolate or grated chocolate to melt.
- Toppings – I like to use holiday sprinkles and crushed candy canes.
- Cocoa Mix – For ease of use I like to use AMERICAN HERITAGE ® Chocolate Gourmet Hot Cocoa Mix. I love this gourmet hot cocoa because it’s mildly spicy and slightly sweet with hints of vanilla, orange, and cinnamon. It’s not spicy where the kids don’t like it. Trust me, they have had multiple cups and love the flavors.
- Mini Marshmallows – You can’t have hot cocoa without marshmallows!
Directions
MELT – Melt the AMERICAN HERITAGE ® Finely Grated Baking Chocolate in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second increments, stir then repeat for another 30 seconds and/or until smooth.
How to Dip Chocolate Spoons
DIP – Dip a spoon in the melted chocolate.
TOP – Place on a parchment lined tray then sprinkle toppings on. Repeat until all spoons are topped.
Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes or until hard.
How to Make Hot Chocolate Gifts
ASSEMBLE – Place ¼ cup of the AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate’s Gourmet Hot Cocoa Mix in a clear plastic treat bag. Add 2 tablespoons of mini marshmallows, and a chocolate spoon. Tie and repeat until all 12 are done.
FAQs
Here are all the frequently asked questions readers have asked when making this recipe.
I like to make 12 spoons at a time. You’ll need at least a half cup of AMERICAN HERITAGE ® Finely Grated Baking Chocolate for dipping.
We like to use a wide variety of toppings on our chocolate spoons such as winter sprinkles with snowflakes as well as Christmas sprinkles. My son loves candy canes so we crushed up a candy cane so that he could sprinkle some on the spoons.
We like to use our chocolate spoons in our hot cocoa. The hot chocolate will melt the chocolate on the spoon adding an extra layer of richness. You can also eat the hardened chocolate right off the spoon if you really want to.
I like to use the wooden disposable spoons for chocolate spoons. However, you can use plastic spoons or even find a wide variety of metal spoons at your local thrift store and gift actual spoons that your friends and family can keep.
Tips & Tricks for Chocolate Spoons
Here are a few of my favorite tips and tricks I’ve learned when making chocolate spoons recipe.
- Spoons– I like to use wooden spoons, but you can use plastic spoons or even metal spoons (found at a thrift store) to give as gifts.
- Refrigeration– You definitely need to have enough room in your refrigerator to let the spoons chill for at least 15 minutes if not up to an hour before packaging in cocoa mix.
- Lined Tray– I love to use parchment paper on a baking sheet. There is no need to spray the parchment with non-stick spray. If the chocolate is hard it will peel right off the paper with ease.
- Storage– Store the chocolate spoons in the refrigerator until you are ready to give the spoons out.
