Bring the tropics to your home with this classic Malibu Bay Breeze drink recipe. This drink is made with equal parts Mailbu Rum, Pineapple Juice, and Cranberry juice.

One of my all time favorite drinks is the Malibu Bay Breeze. This cocktail burst with flavor that reminds me of the tropics. You will often find my husband and I sipping on cups full on the weekends as we lounge by the pool–imagining that we are somewhere tropical. We often dub the bay breeze cocktail as our “Sunday juice”. If you are looking for a delicious and easy-to-drink cocktail to sip poolside I think you’ll love this drink.

Ingredients

Ingredients on counter: Malibu Rum, Pineapple Juice, Cranberry juice, and limes.
  • Malibu Rum – This is key to the Malibu Bay Breeze. You can make this drink with vodka, but I prefer it with rum!
  • Pineapple – You will need both pineapple juice and a pineapple wedge for garnish! I prefer regular pineapple juice over the sugar free/light pineapple juice.
  • Cranberry Juice – Regular cranberry juice is exactly what you will need. None of the flavored types (but that’s totally preference although will slightly change the flavor.
  • Lime – I have a friend who swears by a squeeze of fresh lime in his Bay Breeze. I always just have it as a garnish but don’t saturate my drink with it.

Directions

Fill a large glass with ice. Pour the Malibu Rum on top of the ice. Followed by the pineapple juice and cranberry juice.

Mix with a spoon or shake with a cocktail shaker. Garnish with fresh pineapple and a lime wedge.

FAQs

Here are all the frequently asked questions readers have asked when making this recipe.

How many cups are in a pitcher?

A standard pitcher is about two quarts. There are four cups to a quart. That means there are eight cups of liquid in one standard pitcher.

How do I make a large batch of Bay Breeze for a group?

The traditional Bay Breeze cocktail requires equal parts juice to Malibu Rum. Start with 2.5 cups each Malibu Rum, Pineapple Juice, and Cranberry Juice. Give it a stir and a taste. Pour over ice and don’t forget to garnish with a slice of pineapple.

Can you make a Bay Breeze with vodka?

Yes, you can make a Bay Breeze with vodka instead of Malibu rum. The taste will be less sweeter as the Malibu rum has a coconut flavor to it.

What goes in a Bay Breeze?

You need the following ingredients to make a Bay Breeze. Equal parts Malibu Rum or Vodka, Pineapple Juice, Cranberry Juice, and ice.

Tips & Tricks

One glass of a cocktail next to a swimming pool garnished with a pineapple and lime.

Here are a few of my favorite tips and tricks I’ve learned when making this recipe.

  • Citrus – Add a squeeze of lime for an additional burst of citrus flavor.
  • Liquor – This recipe is for a Malibu Bay Breeze; however, a Bay Breeze typically consist of vodka. You can use whichever type of liquor you prefer.
  • Large Batch – This drink recipe calls for equal parts Malibu rum, pineapple juice, and cranberry juice. This means you can easily make a large batch to serve to a group. I suggest 2 cups of each to start with. A standard pitcher is two quarts.
  • Drink Containers – When we travel to the beach we love to drink bay breezes. We will purchase a plastic bottle filled of pineapple juice (or cranberry juice). We will make a large batch of Bay Breeze cocktail right in the bottle. Typically we will make a “to-go” cup to help empty out the pineapple juice and then empty the remaining pineapple juice we don’t need for the recipe into another pitcher or glasses. By reusing the pineapple container it secures the large batch and can be kept in a cooler. Then just refill your reusable cup as needed!
