We love Italian sausage in my home. Being part Italian I grew up eating sausage at least once a week, if not more! My family loves my grilled sausage and peppers, on Sundays I love to make a good Sausage Bake, and of course I love how easy my Instant Pot Italian Sausage is to make. I love to make my However, I have been diving deep into all things Air Fryer lately. I love how easy Air Fryer Italian Sausage is to make.

The air fry sausage links are perfect for a busy weeknight when you just need to get a fast dinner on the table. I also really like how the outside gets crispy and the inside is still juicy. Boil pasta, heat up some marinara sauce, and throw together a bagged salad and dinner is served in 15 minutes.

Why This Recipe Works

  • Air Fryer Italian Sausage is super easy to make and takes just minutes to cook.
  • There is only one ingredient needed for this recipe; sausage.
  • This recipe will work for other types of sausage like chicken sausage, brats, and even breakfast sausage.
  • Italian Sausage in Air Fryer is a no-fail way of cooking sausage for a crispy outside and juicy inside!

Ingredients

Five raw sausages on a white styrofoam tray sitting on a marble countertop.
  • Cooking Spray – You will want to spray the oven wire rack with a little bit of cooking spray before placing the sausage links on the tray.
  • Italian Sausage Links – One package of Italian sausage links works perfect for this recipe. You can use mild or medium sausage links.

Directions

Here is exactly what you need to know about cooking sausages in Air Fryer. Preheat the Air Fryer Oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

While Air Fryer preheats, spray the wire tray with non-stick cooking spray. Then place the Italian Sausage on top of the tray. Make 1-2 small slits in each of the links. This is to ensure the fat inside the casing doesn’t spew out and cause your Air Fryer to smoke! I know this from experience–so always make sure you poke or cut a few tiny slits in your sausage links.

Place the wire tray of sausage in the Air Fryer. Cook for 12 minutes, flipping the sausage half way through to give an even crispy browned skin.

Carefully, remove from the Air Fryer, divide on plates and enjoy.

Tips & Tricks

Here are a few of my favorite tips and tricks I’ve learned when making this recipe.

  • Prevent Smoking – Like bacon and other fatty foods, Italian sausage has a lot of fat. It is best to cook on a lower heat and always make sure your Air Fryer is not only cleaned well before cooking in it and slits are poked in the sausage before cooking to prevent fat from spraying out of the casing.
  • Different Types of Sausage – Like mentioned above, you can use this same method to make chicken sausage, brats, and even breakfast sausage. Make sure you cut slits in any sausage that has a casing to prevent smoking.
  • Preheat Air Fryer – I always like to preheat my Air Fryer for a few minutes while I’m getting ingredients out and/or prepped.
  • Resting at Room Temperature – I like to let my sausage rest on the counter for a few minutes before I throw them in the Air Fryer. By bringing them to room temperature or close to it — it helps for even cooking time!
