Get ready for another leftover recipe. This one involves dessert (one of my favorite meals of the day)! Do you have just one or two slices of apple pie leftover? Tired of eating pie in the morning with coffee or maybe as a midnight snack? Why not make an Apple Pie Milkshake?

Yes, you read correctly–if you have milk and vanilla ice cream on hand you are in luck my friend. Wow, your family and friends and make this decadent apple pie shake for them. Even though it might be cold out — I don’t think anyone can resist a good milkshake. Especially if it is an apple pie milkshake!

Ingredients

Ingredients: apple pie, milk, ice cream, apple pie spice, carmale sauce, and whipped cream
  • Apple Pie – I like to save a slice of my homemade apple pie, but any apple pie will do.
  • Vanilla Ice Cream – Any type of vanilla ice cream will do. Just make sure its on the harder side and not soupy and soft. This will prevent the milkshake from thickening up.
  • Milk – I’ve used 2%, whole, and even half and half. I’ve never experimented with dairy-free/plant based milk, but I’m sure it will work.
  • Spice – I like to use apple pie spice, but if you don’t have that on hand you can use a little ground cinnamon with a pinch of ground nutmeg.

Directions

  • In a blender, place the apple pie, whole milk, vanilla ice cream, and apple pie spice. Blend for 20 seconds or until apple pie is blended.
  • Pour into two glasses.
  • Top with freshly made whipped cream, caramel sauce or even my Salted Maple Caramel Sauce, and pieces of pie crust crumbled.
  • Enjoy the apple pie milkshake!

FAQs

Do you put ice in a milkshake?

Do not put ice in a milkshake. The ice will water down the milkshake making it too watery and thin.

How do you thicken a milkshake?

A great way to thicken a milkshake is by adding heavy cream instead of milk to a milkshake. The spinning of the blender, will whip the cream helping make a thicker milkshake.

How do you sweeten a milkshake?

You have a few ways to sweeten a milkshake. It will be naturally sweet thanks to the milk and ice cream. For additional sweetness you can add chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, fruit compote, maple syrup, or even honey.

Tips & Tricks

Here are a few of my favorite tips and tricks I’ve found helpful when making this apple pie shake.

  • Recipe Yields – 2.5 cups of milkshake. This gives me either 2 large 10 ounce milkshakes or 3 smaller milkshakes.
  • Ice Cream – Make sure your ice cream is pretty solid. This will help keep it the thick milkshake like consistency.
  • Substitutions – Substitute plant based ice cream and milk for a dairy free/vegan option.
  • Spice – If you don’t have apple pie spice use ¼ teaspoon cinnamon and a dash of nutmeg in place of the apple pie spice.
