Some food that cannot be cooked in a slow cooker are:
–Dairy – it will curdle if cooked over a long period of time. Instead add it at the end
–Starches – Ingredients like rice, couscous, and pasta should be omitted from the slow cooker until the end.
– Seafood – most seafood takes minutes to make and you don’t want rubbery fish).
-Lean meats – you can cook boneless skinless chicken breast but you need to remove it from the heat asap and make sure you have a delicious sauce to coat it in.
-Extra fatty meats -trim off the extra fat so that your food cooks evenly)
There are a wide variety of items you can cook in a slow cooker. My favorites are pot roast, whole chickens, jambalaya, and pork tenderloins for main dishes. Slow cookers use very little electricity, making them energy efficient and ideal for trying to get a home cooked dinner on the table. Slow cookers, like those from Crock-Pot brand, use between 75-150 watts of electricity on low and between 150-210 watts on high.
Yes, the beauty of the slow cooker is that you can leave it unattended while you go about your day. Since they have either a “low” or “high” setting and if the recipe is followed properly you should have no issues leaving it unattended.
