If you don’t own a Crock Pot or Slow Cooker I am here to share with you some of the Best Slow Cookers on the market plus the ones I own. All prices were found in March 2022 and could be subject to change. - KitchenAid 6-Quart Slow Cooker with Standard Lid found on KitchenAid for $120. This is the similar model of the slow cooker I have. I prefer an oval shaped slow cooker so that I can easily fit in large pieces of meat like corned beef or whole chickens.
- Instant Pot NOVA 6 Pressure Cooker, 6 quart found on Amazon for $42. This does both slow cooking and pressure cooking and a great value.
- Crock-Pot 6-Quart Cook & Carry Programmable Slow Cooker with Digital Timer found on Amazon for $80. The latches are perfect if you plan to be transporting your meal.
- Hamilton Beach Portable 6-Quart Set & Forget Digital Programmable Slow Cooker with Lid Lock, Temperature Probe, Stainless Steel found on Amazon for $70. I love that this has a thermometer that stays in the meat so you don’t have to disturb the meat from cooking.

Here are just some of the most frequently asked questions when it comes to cooking with a slow cooker/ Crock Pot.
Some food that cannot be cooked in a slow cooker are:
–Dairy – it will curdle if cooked over a long period of time. Instead add it at the end
–Starches – Ingredients like rice, couscous, and pasta should be omitted from the slow cooker until the end.
– Seafood – most seafood takes minutes to make and you don’t want rubbery fish).
-Lean meats – you can cook boneless skinless chicken breast but you need to remove it from the heat asap and make sure you have a delicious sauce to coat it in.
-Extra fatty meats -trim off the extra fat so that your food cooks evenly)
There are a wide variety of items you can cook in a slow cooker. My favorites are pot roast, whole chickens, jambalaya, and pork tenderloins for main dishes. I also like to cook potatoes, creamed corn, honey carrots as side dishes. Don’t forget dessert. The slow cooker can make a mean dump cake or even cobbler.
Yes, it is safe to put raw meat in a slow cooker. Just make sure it is fully defrosted before cooking. This will prevent unwanted food borne illness.
Yes, a slow cooker is worth buying if you find that you never have enough time to get dinner on the table. Dinner can be placed in a slow cooker in the morning and cook while you are at work. In my book spending the $50-100 is well worth it.
Slow cookers use very little electricity, making them energy efficient and ideal for trying to get a home cooked dinner on the table. Slow cookers, like those from Crock-Pot brand, use between 75-150 watts of electricity on low and between 150-210 watts on high.
Yes, the beauty of the slow cooker is that you can leave it unattended while you go about your day. Since they have either a “low” or “high” setting and if the recipe is followed properly you should have no issues leaving it unattended.
Yes, slow cookers and Crock Pot’s are designed to be left to cook for long periods of time unattended which includes overnight. If you are entertaining for a breakfast or brunch or simply want to bring dinner to a friend the next day. Placing ingredients in a slow cooker before bed and letting it cook overnight can be ideal.
